Apple probably grumbling over Epic Games Store's $1 million offer to developers
In the wake of the goliath-vs.-goliath battle between Epic and Apple, which resulted in a court order mandating that Apple cant collect fees on purchases made outside of apps, Epic is back with even more incentives to lure people into its own storefront ecosystem. Epic announced on Thursday that, beginning in June, for any payments processed by the Epic Games Store, developers will pay zero percent revenue share on their first $1,000,000 per app, per year. When a companys app hits the milestone, the rev share model reverts to a split of 88%/12%. Also beginning in June, developers will be able to launch their own webshops. As Epic puts it in its announcement, These webshops can offer players out-of-app purchases, as a more cost-effective alternative to in-app purchases, where Apple, Google, and others charge exorbitant fees.
